DOWNLOAD RESPONSIBLE SOURCING OF MATERIALS AGENDA

The Northern Regional College have developed a Responsible Sourcing of Materials Programme which aims to:

  • Develop and maintain a sustainable procurement Framework including Responsible Sourcing of Materials (RSM)
  • Increase access to public sector procurement opportunities for local contractors including Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and Social Economy Enterprises (SEEs)

The RSM programme will enable local manufacturers and users of building materials to better understand Government requirements in relation to responsible sourcing of materials. The RSM programme will provide a holistic approach enabling organisations to understand key issues in managing a product from the point at which a material is mined or harvested in its raw state through manufacture and processing, through use, re-use and recycling, until its final disposal as waste with no further value.

Achievement of RSM is demonstrated through an ethos of supply chain management and product stewardship and encompasses social, economic and environmental dimensions and addresses aspects such as stakeholder engagement, labour practices and the management of supply chains serving materials sectors upstream of the manufacturer. It is anticipated that participation in the RSM programme will directly impact organisational growth through innovation, product development, and import substitution.

This programme has been developed for three main areas of industry in Northern Ireland:

  • Brick, Block, Aggregate and Pre-cast Concrete Manufacturers
  • Structural Steel Fabricators
  • Timber and Plastic Products Manufacturers

Responsible Sourcing of Materials Seminars

There will be a seminar for each area of industry supported by this programme. These seminars will:

  • Explore and reflect on areas where business improvements and innovative processes could be applied.
  • Work closely with relevant stakeholder organisation to identify potential supply chain SMEs that support RSM.
  • Provide an early opportunity to explore ideas leading towards developing capacity to innovate new products and/or increase import substitution.

Responsible Sourcing of Materials Workshops

The RSM Programme will offer three day workshops for each of the three industries in:

  • Organisational Management Requirements
  • Supply Chain Management Requirements
  • Environmental/Social Requirements
