Tom Mayers, Project Manager of Carbon Zero NI, Research Lecturer Jo McCanny, Carmel Mee and John Russell from Southern Regional College and Paddy Gorman from Belfast Metropolitan College recently joined an Invest NI trade trip to the Energiesparmesse Expo in Wels, Austria. The Carbon Zero Team travelled with a number of Companies from Northern Ireland, already involved in the Renewable Energy Sector, in order to gain a greater understanding of the various Renewable Energy Technologies available on the International Market and to establish links with Training Organisations and Businesses for collaborative working.

Energiesparmesse is Austria’s leading platform for innovation in energy management, renewable energy and energy efficiency and Austria is one of the world leaders in renewable energy with a particularly long history in the development of biomass and solar technology
During the first day of the three day expo the Carbon Zero team viewed new and existing technologies available in the renewable energy sector developed and manufactured across Europe. The team also participated in one-to-one Partnering meetings with representatives from Profactor, Austria Solar Innovation Centre and Axceqor GmbH organised by Invest NI to develop networking links for collaborative working in training and research.
In a meeting with Miles Fisher, the British Embassy Trade Attache, during an Invest NI dinner at Postlingberg Castle, Tom Mayers took the opportunity to discuss the vast opportunities for Northern Ireland Companies to establish links with European Companies and Organisations in the Clean Energy Sector.
