Experience

For my sandwich year of my degree I was employed as a student process engineer with Littelfuse Ireland, Dundalk. I was also fortunate to obtain two IAESTE (International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience) placements in Skopje, Macedonia (2004) and Tunis, Tunisia (2006).
I have travelled to Australia, Kuala Lumpur, Europe and now Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.
Prior to Pittsburgh I was employed by Montupet UK Limited (2008-2010) as a dimensional engineer. Montupet UK Limited supply cylinder heads to the car industry (Ford and Peugeot being the main customer). The Puma cylinder head was my main concern whilst working as a dimensional engineer. The main aspect of my job was to use SPC (Statistical Process Control software) in order to determine the quality of the cylinder head. SPC is used in order for the dimensional engineer to read data and to call adjustments on the machining and casting lines. I had to ensure new tooling was dimensionally correct before being released into production. I called weekly dimensional meetings to ensure all quality issues where raised with and corrective actions were in place. I also ensured that internal audits where completed for the annual TS audit.

Placement Expectations

I applied for the Pittsburgh programme in order to learn more about clean technology and sustainability. This is my main aim and I hope that I am successful in bringing new skills back to Northern Ireland.
